There are those who love nothing better than sitting by the side of a lake with fishing rod poised at the ready on a sunny day. But how do you square that with the rest of the family who want to get away to new or favourite locations? Simple – choose one of these caravan sites where fishing is one of many activities on offer. Trust me, the family will fall for it hook, line and sinker!

1. Caistor Lakes Leisure Park, Brigg Road, Caistor LN7 6RX

Situated off the A46 in Lincolnshire, this adults-only award winning site offers three well stocked fishing lakes. The specimen carp lake holds two fifties, the record being 51lb 12 oz. The specimen lake was recently stocked in 2016 with 62 carp from 17lbs to the over 51lb and at just 1.5 acres in size a hooking a monster feels more achievable than fishing a vast reservoir.

With one of the best night fishing set ups we've come across built into every peg is low lighting, twin socket power supply and inbuilt LED light for landing the big one without the need for a head torch.

If carp fishing is not your thing then try the Leisure lake, which holds a variety of course species namely: ide, bream, tench, barbel, carp, ghost carp, crucian carp, perch, chub, roach and gudgeon or alternatively there is also a match lake where the site organises regular match fishing competitions.

The site has top quality amenities with access paths that are fully gravelled, making them suitable for disabled visitors. When the action is over you can enjoy the site's facilities including a restaurant and bar, a food shop and free Wi-Fi access across the site. Hard standing is provided for caravans and motorhomes.


Fish swimming

2. The Oaks Lakes, Thirsk, North Yorkshire , YO7 3BG

Just off the A19 between Easingwold and Thirsk and close to the delightful village of Sessay, this adults only site houses 10 coarse fishing lakes in total with three of them being purpose built for match fishing. Hard gravel roads around the lakes make for easy access. Just waiting for you to drop them a line are carp, tench, bream, roach, rudd, gudgeon, perch, barbel, ide, crucian, carb, golden tench and golden orfe.

Most lakes are aimed at the pleasure angler and have a mixed array of fish to target but there is a specimen lake called the 'Willows' which hold carp to 25lb, ghost carp to 26lb and commons/mirrors to 28lb. Floating baits are allowed on this lake, with boilies being used by the majority of the anglers targeting carp.

There is a handy tackle shop onsite as well as a café serving all manner of hot foods throughout the day. Caravan and motorhome pitches are all on supersized hard standing surfaces with electrical hook-ups.


3. Weston Pool Village, Weston Pools, Oswestry, Shropshire. SY10 9ER

Close to the town of Oswestry, this site can be found just off the A483. It is located on the Weston Pool Fishery and offers six coarse fishing pools for leisure and under match conditions.

The lakes hold an abundance of fish including most anglers favourite and a rarity on commercial fishing lakes; barbel, alongside tench, carp, F1's, crucians, bream, roach, ide and ghost carp.

The match lake 'The Canal Pool' did a stock take in 2014 and saw the total fish weight touch 5000lb of fish! Holding 700lb of barbel.

On-site is a club house, café and laundrette, together with a heated shower block. Oswestry with its selection of restaurants and bars is just one mile away. This site offers caravan hard standing pitches only.


Carp fish

4. Blackland Lakes, Stockley Lane, Calne, Wiltshire SN11 0NQ

Situated within the site of the world famous Westbury White Horse on Salisbury plain, Blackland has two coarse fishing lakes filled with carp, tench, perch, roach, bream and gudgeon.

Heron Lake holds some sizeable carp to 25lb with both lakes holding some decent specimen roach up to 3.5lb, and perch to 3.5lb to go at. Night fishing is available by appointment with good size pegs available for most swims. .

On-site is a shop and a barbeque barn which is licensed as well as an events area. Nearby are the towns of Devizes and Chippenham with their greater selection of eating and drinking establishments. The site caters for touring caravans and motorhomes


5. Thornbury Holiday Park, Woodacott, Holsworthy, Devon, England, EX22 7BT

Situated around four miles from the picturesque market town of Holsworthy, on the border between Devon and Cornwall, this site has two fishing lakes which have been established for approximately 20 years. Both are fully stocked with carp, specimen carp, tench, bream and other coarse fish.

On site is a well-stocked licenced bar serving snacks. Around 30 minutes' drive away is the wonderful seaside town Bude, which is a must-visit place. Five touring spaces with private parking are available for caravans and motorhomes.


6. Waldegraves Holiday Park, Mersea Island, Colchester, Essex, CO5 8SE

On Mersea Island, and around a 20 minute drive from Colchester, this is a lively holiday park with facilities to please the whole family. There is top quality live entertainment throughout the year in the Wheatsheaf Clubhouse, together with the Granary Bar and Restaurant. Motorhomes and caravans are provided hard standing pitches.
The lakes are well stocked here with a good head of carp averaging 6-10lb, there are some doubles too with the largest known fish currently 22lb.

There is also a variety of other species including the resident sturgeons Bob and George, bream, tench, roach, rudd, perch and gudgeon. The lakes have recently undergone improvements with new swims added, it also has a handy bait and tackle shop onsite to take all the hassle out of things so you can spend more time on the bank. If you're blanking on the lakes why not try your hand at sea fishing which is available on the beach.


Fishing rods

7. Sandwich Lakes, Sandwich Ash Road, Sandwich, Kent, CT3 2DA

Just off the A256, and not more than six miles from Deal and Ramsgate, this fishery consists of six lakes stocked with a large range of coarse fish. Common and mirror carp run big to 35lb, catch a whopper of a perch that go to 4lb 2oz, also find bream, roach, rudd and the lovely tench.

The Victory Lake which is approximately two acres in size provides a rare opportunity to catch a ghost carp. Night fishing and lessons can be arranged.

There is an onsite café which offers hot and cold food and drinks as well as housing a well-stocked tackle shop. Caravan and motorhome grass pitches are available in a peaceful countryside setting overlooking the lakes.


8. Thurston Manor Leisure Park, Innerwick, Dunbar, EH42 1SA

Thurston Manor Leisure Park is situated only an hour's drive from Edinburgh at the foot of the Lammermuir Hills and near the famous East Lothian coastline. Fly-fishing is available from the park's own lake which offers a tranquil location to catch your first rainbow trout on the fly. If you're new to fly fishing and want to try your hand at it you can hire equipment and a permit to allow you to catch and keep up to three fish.

When the action is over there is plenty on-site to keep the family happy including a lounge bar, restaurant and shop. Facilities also include a heated pool, sauna and steam room, plus a well-equipped fitness centre. Caravans and motorhomes are catered for on hard-standing pitches.


Fly fishing

9. Loch Ken Holiday Park, Parton, Castle Douglas DG7 3NE

Loch Ken offers coarse fishing and some game fishing with beautiful views. The loch is mostly renowned for its sizeable pike, roach, perch and bream, in fact one look on the website gives an indication of the specimen pike on offer.

A coffee bar serving hot and cold food and a grocery shop are available on-site as is free Wi-Fi. There is a selection of children's activities available including a kids club in high season, a football pitch, table tennis, play parks and swings. Caravans and motorhomes are catered for on hard-standing pitches.


10. High Farm Holiday Park, Routh, Beverley, HU17 9SL

You will find it close to the town of Beverley, on the A1035. The site is set in 130 acres of park and woodlands in the Yorkshire Wolds. It has a two acre fishing lake stocked with carp, tench, perch and roach. Other facilities to enjoy on-site include a free to use nine-hole golf course, a bowling green and a children's play area. A shop and laundrette complete this peaceful and quiet location's facilities. Hard standing is provided for caravans and motorhomes.
