Avid skiers and snowboarders are turning to caravans as a cheaper alternative for their annual winter break, according to Safeguard.
Safeguard, the UK’s leading motorhome and caravan insurance provider, has seen a significant increase in people looking for quotes to insure their home from home in European ski resorts.
In an attempt to avoid expensive hotels and flights and with low-cost airlines charging premium rates for checking-in extra luggage such as skis and snowboards, winter sports enthusiasts are seeking ways to cut costs more than ever before.
Taking a caravan provides cheap, comfortable accommodation, offers plenty of space to transport skis and snowboards and is the economical solution in response to the plunging value of sterling which is making holidays in European ski resorts much more expensive.
Rita Sadler, Safeguard manager said: “The current economic climate is making holiday-makers much more budget conscious. Skiing and snowboarding fans who have been looking forward to their winter break all year are seeking ways to cut costs without cutting their holiday short or even worse cancelling it completely. Caravans and motorhomes are a great way to save money on accommodation, offer plenty of space for storing ski equipment and provide a ready-made venue for the infamous apres-ski. ”
