Despite the financial pressure facing many families at the moment, people are still keen to head off on holiday at some point in 2012.
This is according to new research from Sainsbury's Finance, which shows that large numbers are in search of last-minute bookings in order to cut costs.
It estimates that throughout the course of the year, £22.1 billion will be spent on holiday escapes, as 28.9 million Brits hope to flee the UK for a much needed break.
On average, those planning on booking a holiday in 2012 will spend around £765.
David Barrett, Sainsbury's travel insurance manager, said that many families will no doubt set themselves a strict budget for their holidays this year.
"It appears that more people will delay booking their holiday this year, presumably hoping to secure a better deal and the majority of us are aiming to reduce our spending money too," he commented.
Statistics show that 45 per cent of people are planning an overseas holiday, with 17 per cent of this figure hoping to stay in a hotel.
Only 6.8 million holidaymakers are hoping to make their arrangements by the end of next month, which compares to 13.4 million during the same period of last year.
Furthermore, 23 per cent will make their bookings between March and June, while ten per cent will do so between July and September.
Of those polled, 16 per cent said they had already arranged their holiday for this year.
Mr Barrett continued: "Organising your travel money before you go means that you have one less thing to worry about, and are fully prepared when you reach your destination."
In order to cut costs further, 43 per cent of those questioned by Sainsbury's revealed that they would be holidaying in the UK this year, with 28 per cent of them planning a camping or caravanning break.
