A recent glut of spring camping and caravan shows has seen Swift Caravans' sales for 2012 pass the £16 million mark already.
Last week's Motorhome, Camping and Caravan Show at the ExCel Centre in London's Docklands alone raked the East Yorkshire firm in an incredible £8.7 million in new sales.
And that added to the money made at recent events in Manchester and Birmingham means that this year has got off to one hell of a flier.
Three stylish new layouts in the Swift Challenger Sport range have proven to be the driving force behind the sales spike and were found to be extremely popular for families which have never owned a caravan before.
Indeed, some of the people who purchased the model had only just come around to idea of taking a caravanning holiday in the UK.
"It is encouraging to note that by offering products that are competitively priced and are designed to suit families with smaller, less expensive cars we have still managed to generate a high level of overall sales that compare very favourably with the levels achieved last January and February," said Nick Page, commercial director of the Swift Group.
“With other big ticket items on the high street showing resilience so far in 2012 we are confident that the successes achieved at these shows will continue. A view echoed by one of our larger dealers in the Midlands also achieving record sales over a 3 day promotion last weekend.
"We are taking this as a clear indicator that Caravan holidays are still proving to be the most popular way of spending your leisure time.”
And more families may be about to the follow the lead set by those that bought a caravan for the first time at the shows as Peter Hampson, chief executive at British Destinations, believes that British breaks are becoming more appealing.
