More than £1 million could be pumped into the Shropshire economy when a new £3 million caravan park development opens on May 9th.
Shrewsbury-based Morris Leisure are behind the construction of the 135 pitch, 20 acre site close to the river Teme between Richards Castle and Ludlow.
Initially concerns were raised over the site's access along the A49 and B4361 and the potential environmental damage that could be caused the construction and the additional traffic it will cause.
But Morris Leisure have reassured local residents and gained the backing of both Shropshire Council and the local parish council.
And claims over the positive financial impact of the project have further helped to win over the naysayers.
Work began on the park in July last year and initial projections were for completion this summer. But things have run ahead of schedule and the site will be open in time for the annual Ludlow Spring Food Festival on May 12th and 13th.
Morris Leisure’s managing director, Edward Goddard, said “After months of waiting, we are delighted to announce that Ludlow Touring Park will be open for business on May 9 and bookings are now being accepted.
“It’s an exciting time for everyone associated with the new park, which is generating interest from caravan and motorhome owners from across the UK.”
The popularity of getting away from the grind of normal daily life in a stylish caravan or motorhome has never been greater and that can evidenced in the large number of new site which are getting approval the length and breadth of the county.
Earlier this week, it was announced that one of North Yorkshire's most historic caravanning spots is to be extended due to a sharp increase in demand.
The site, which is in the grounds of the Mulgrave Estate on the North York Moors, will double in size and include a new amenities block and access road.
