Motorhome insurance policyholders will continue to book breaks at the last minute for as long as economic problems continue.
Bob Atkinson, travel expert from travelsupermarket.com, said those working in employment sectors facing cutbacks are the most likely to opt for spur of the moment bargains.
"People, especially on lower incomes, have found their household budgets increasing because of the increasing food costs et cetera, then there are a lot of people leaving it later," he commented.
Holidaymakers will first wait and see whether they can afford a break before making a booking, Mr Atkinson added.
Findings from Sainsbury's Credit Cards earlier this week revealed that this year, 28 million people booked their breaks less than two weeks before going on them this summer.
It also estimated that £5.46 billion of summer holiday expenditure will be placed on credit cards this year.
